Quote from Ron Gilbert’s Grumpty Gamer Site:
…
Each and everyday I walk by the bookshelf that holds my game collection. I contemplate breaking open one of them and giving it a shot. But I don’t. I can’t.
These games have come to represent something I hate about this business. Playing them would signal my giving in to the machine. The dangerous machine that threatens to grind up any creativity and chance that will we be more than the toy business.
I feel somewhat the same.
I’ve been trying to play a seires of Mediocre games lately. Amongst are “Singles”, “Uru: ages beyond myst”, “Syberia 2” and i think there are a few others. I need some good games to play, I’ve started a “Nancy drew” game two days ago, but it’s just not a great game. it’s OK. it doesn’t thrill me to play it. And it’s 2d-pre rendered first person game.
I dislike first person games.
Would you have gone to see a “First person movie” ? or a perhaps, “First person tv-series” ?
My opinion is as long as VR technology, exists and is available for pirvate use in reasonable prices, there’s no reason to keep making those horrible games who make me sea sick.
Also, the lack of a protagonist representaion to relate to is frustrating. Lee asked me if Nancy wore pink. I told her, I simply don’t know, and can’t know, because even though i’ve been player her, in her game, i havn’t seen her at all.
It takes out the fun.
And P.S. I actually started growing my goatee as i was inspired by Guybrush Threepwood in Monkey Island 2. Too bad he shaved it on the next ones. I really liked his goatee.
Guybrush is certainly a charachter you can indentify yourself with. After all, who doesn’t want to be a pirate ?
P.P.S my site is having some network problems (routing). If it loads slowly then usual, you can blame my web ISP. Then again, I get free web hosting. So, I get what support I pay for – Bubkes.
Happy Hannukah !
