Monkeying around

Here is A nice article about a girl who decides to play Monkey Island 1 nowadays, in search for the good old adventure game disipline she had of not looking at walkthroughs.
Very interesting read, i completly agree with her on most parts.
Monkey Island is still one of the best games ever made.

Thanks Ron !!!

High Hopes

Wow.
I have something to wait for !!!

I’ve known about them from quite some time now, but they’s finally opened up their website today !

Bad Brain Entertainment gives hope for the revival of the adventure game genre.
They have a line of several upcoming games that they are going to publish, 3 of which are old style point and click adnventure games.
A Vampyre Story: looks like a comedic monkey-island-3 styled adventure game.

i-jeta multiplayer point and click adventure game (!!!) if the can pull this off, it’s gonna be awsome !
I had an idea myself to do something like what they’re describing. Too bad i didn’t have a relatively complete design and some credit, and that noone actually bought MY idea. which I had… Maybe on one of my next idead.

and… The Orgastic Four A 70’s style point and click sexual adventure game. can anyone say “Larry” ???

Like i said, don’t invent the wheel, just improve it.

There also have been a lot of rumors (including in THEIR OWN WEBSITE) about them purchasing the rights to publish Sam and Max 2 (instead of Lucasarts).
I’m guessing good ol’ George is too busy with the finishing of Episode III he doesn’t really have the time to nurture his gaming company. I’m also guessing this might change in a few years.

Other then finding a few typos in their “only up for day” website, i’m really excited about their company, and that a publisher has the guts to stand up and invest in adveture games in spite the industry’s gaming situation. I’m so glad someone is willing to take the risk needed to do something that he thinks is right, and i hope that by doing the right thing, he’ll also make a lot of money.

I suggest any adventure gamers among my audience of blog readers to read this interview with their CEO :

An interview with Wolfgang Kierdorf of Bad Brain.

Good luck bad brain !

Gilbert’s Gaming Grumps

Quote from Ron Gilbert’s Grumpty Gamer Site:

Each and everyday I walk by the bookshelf that holds my game collection. I contemplate breaking open one of them and giving it a shot. But I don’t. I can’t.

These games have come to represent something I hate about this business. Playing them would signal my giving in to the machine. The dangerous machine that threatens to grind up any creativity and chance that will we be more than the toy business.

I feel somewhat the same.

I’ve been trying to play a seires of Mediocre games lately. Amongst are “Singles”, “Uru: ages beyond myst”, “Syberia 2” and i think there are a few others. I need some good games to play, I’ve started a “Nancy drew” game two days ago, but it’s just not a great game. it’s OK. it doesn’t thrill me to play it. And it’s 2d-pre rendered first person game.
I dislike first person games.
Would you have gone to see a “First person movie” ? or a perhaps, “First person tv-series” ?
My opinion is as long as VR technology, exists and is available for pirvate use in reasonable prices, there’s no reason to keep making those horrible games who make me sea sick.
Also, the lack of a protagonist representaion to relate to is frustrating. Lee asked me if Nancy wore pink. I told her, I simply don’t know, and can’t know, because even though i’ve been player her, in her game, i havn’t seen her at all.
It takes out the fun.

And P.S. I actually started growing my goatee as i was inspired by Guybrush Threepwood in Monkey Island 2. Too bad he shaved it on the next ones. I really liked his goatee.
Guybrush is certainly a charachter you can indentify yourself with. After all, who doesn’t want to be a pirate ?

P.P.S my site is having some network problems (routing). If it loads slowly then usual, you can blame my web ISP. Then again, I get free web hosting. So, I get what support I pay for – Bubkes.

Happy Hannukah !

Irregularities

My life is full of irregularities. Always is and always has been.
They manifest themselves in diffrent shapes and sizes. But one thing is certain, i cannot obtain a routine for too long. It just doesn’t happen to me.
I like routine, most of the time, but I also my spontanious nature don’t allow me to have one.
I guess i’ll probably be bored if my life were truly routine, like many other people i know who live a routine life.

The most obvious example is my sleeping schedule. In the past two weeks, i’ve been sleeping 5 hours and then 12-14 hours intermidietly every two days. Today was the 14 hours sleep day. tommorow i’ll probably won’t be able to catch more then 5 measly hours of sleep again.
There are noumerous disadvantages for it, starting with the fact that the hours i’m awake occur during nighttime, and don’t allow me to partake in certain activities, to certain tasks, and talk to certain people. I’d preffer to wake up at around 12:00 and not 18:30. that’ll happen tommorow, probably when i’ll sleep 5 hours.
I might wake up earlier, but it will also leave me tireder…. Such is the cruel sleep cycle i’m in.
I’ll work on chaging that.
I still need a bigger hard drive, and now i need one bigger then ever. I also need some more computer supplies, and maybe it’s time i bought some of them. Like, a scanner, and a Video-in capture and display card.
I also need the money to pay for those, and not having a job means i don’t have any income, and thus no money. The sad note is that when i’ll have a job, I won’t have the time and luxury to do the things i plan for those new hardware additions.

I need to play a game. Reut Sorek gave me her copy of Tex Murphy – Overseer, which doesn’t install on Win2K. Googling up a solution didn’t turn up as well as i accpected, and form what i saw, anyone who tried asking for help got answers like : get WinXP or Install Windows 98. nothing helpful.
I’ll keep trying, but i think i better find a new game to play first. But for that i might need some free hard disk space. which is a problem until i get a new hard drive.

On a completly diffrent note, I had the most disturbing conversation with a girl from the internet who i’ve only known through chats in ICQ. She was depressed about breaking up with her boyfriend (which she only dated of a measly month). I know she had her share of problems. Her cousin died from a bike accident not long ago and she’s still affected by it, and she also don’t like going to school all too much (i remember how that was depressing for me).
Last night, i was about to leave, but had 10 minutes to spare, and i saw her online, and decided to say hello. She told me about her break up, and that she’s had it with life, and that she took a bunch of pills, and it will end her troubles.
At first i didn’t know how to react, so I continued talking as if nothing was wrong and as if she was kidding, I said stuff like, i need to go, and like I’ll talk to you in about 2 hours. So she said she won’t be here in 2 hours. and that she’s already getting drouzy. So i told her, so not in two hours, I’ll see you tommorow, and she replies that I can only see her in the sky tommorow.
I couldn’t help myself but thinking what if she actually took some pills and she’s gonna die ?
And that i didn’t do anything to stop it ?
After a long 30 hour which included a lot of exclamation marks, she agreed she’ll go and throw up for me.

My thoughs afterwards were that maybe it was only a cry for attentoin and she didn’t take any pills or nothing. But i could stand the though of her actually do taking pills, and that i’d end up seeing her name in the obituaries.
I did feel a bit good for being able to (at least theoretically) help her. Even if it might not have been help her out of killing herself, i sure know i helped her out of some depression. And it counts too in my book
I used to like helping people, but it was always about people i care. I don’t know why she can be considered as someone i care about, but maybe just knowing her through the ICQ means i care not to lose a contact. I don’t know. The internet causes all sort of screw up problems.

I suggest everybody go see or remember the scene with the homeless guy from “Groundhog Day”.
Also, Having someone talk about suicide, the day after you see the movie “What Dreams May Come” can be really bothering, having that movie deal with Death and Suicide.

I got an ICQ from her today, which means she’s alive, although it only said that she won’t be online today.
It also said “Thanks for yesterday”.

Day out with the chookit

I went to the employemnt office again today.
My unemployment period will end next week, so i still have to come this week and the next.

Today was a dry day (non-rainy) so Lee decided to join me on a tour around Tel-Aviv, and we decicded to take the bike.

After getting to the offices (near shenkin-alenbi), we went eating a yummy Falafel and Shakshuka at “4 diffrent tatstes falafel” in King George near Dizengoff.
other then having most exquisit food, the guy who runs the stand is so friendly, and kind. I’m always willing to go back to any place of business where i’m treated nicely. It’s a compatative value that most Israeli businesses don’t regard, so it’s nice to get a smiling face and a greet when giving someone your money in exchange for goods and services.
The fact that i’m accompanied by a gorgeous blond always helps.

We continued to visit my grandmother, where we had tea and cookies. I managed to read a whole comic book while Lee did some homework.
On our way back we stopped to eat Thailand noodles, at the shop in Iben-Gavirol and Zabotinsky. It was very tasty. I go past that place every time i’m on my way back and forth from the unemployment office, and the smells of yummy oriental food always gets me. Last time i actaully stopped there, and had a burger. It was very good and i wanted to try on these noodles sooner. I would have if wouldn’t have started raining, so we were lucky that it wasn’t raining at all today.

All in all a good day.
In addition for having a nice weekend, in which we enjoyed the company of friend for the weekly Enterprise episode, along with a very tasty cake that Reut Sorek made. YUMMY!

We played (and finally finished) space quest 3. I miss those good games that they used to make. Instead they make such shitty games…
Ashame.

I wonder if i’m getting old. I’m starting to sound like an old man filled with nostangia for the “good” black-and-white movies, and hates today’s action movies.
I never liked black and white movies too much, nor i like action movies. Many of both generes are crap. I will admit there seems to be a lot more good “old” movies then “new” ones in recent year. I’m hoping it’s not an effect of the same problem of getting old.

Luckily i have more then a few people who agree with me on quality of new video games and movies.
