Mission successful : Birthday Party

The party last night was a great success. Part for the fact that we managed to fit in even more people into our small tiny apartment, we’ve introduced a few new members to the party comers. Amongst people like Astrid, Who’s blog is one of the reasons i have a blog, and i read , and constantly, when she bothers writing in it (nudge nudge…), and Ofir “The Nice Doctor” which is how me and Lee calls him ever since we know him for the past years, only recently he joined us in our weekly friday enterprise screenings, and was his first party.
Other then them there were some friend of friends, who i didn’t know, nor invite directly, like Yael’s … date (for lack of better term). This Shay (or Shai ?) guy, comes in the appartment and gets excited about all my star trek and other sci-fi collectables, starting with the “united federation of planets” flag, which is hanged next to the entrance. Then he asks me: don’t you know me? and i say, politely, (remembering the Ori Berger situation), maybe, but you’d have to remind me. So he does, and i do remember him, only not by face or name, but by occurance. I’ve met him 2 or more years back when i was still in TAU and managing the Starbase972 Tau screenings, and he talked to me about it, being a trekkie himself.

I’ve got a lot of compliments on my Cauliflower pie i’ve made, but I actually like the Potato pie i’ve made better… The cake i’ve also made turn out very good, and slightly over alcoholic. I though Idan wouldn’t be able to eat it, and i think i tricked him into eating it, just because i told him: “I’ve made a cake, but you won’t eat it because it have so much chocolate and whipped cream in it”, Lee said he asked if there was alchohol in it, only after eating half way through it, then finishing it despite it…

I’ve got a few very cool presents, amogst:
A protrait of me, that Lee got Uri Fink to make, which i just love !
Printouts of various paper-cutout starship models i’ve been wanting to make.
An actual flying saucer. which actually flies.
A Very cool thermometer which uses gravity and density in it’s main principle. Other the fact that it’s extremely cool, It was probably given to us to remind us that our friends preffer chillier environments. We like it warmer, and thus it’s warmer in our apartment, and thus get complains from friend who are too hot…
And a big poster of the movie Independance Day, which I’m going to hang shortly.

We also got Buffy’s 4th season, and we’ll get through mail, the series “The Tick” which i liked.
Lee got a bunch of books too. And i got another starwars role playing game book from Idan too.

I’m hoping most people enjoyed the party, even though it was in … technically speaking – a weekday, so some guests seemed to be tired.

Pictures are available in the party section of the gallery (Hall Of Pictures).

You can also cast your feedback in the Party’s Page.

Soldedad’s BLOG

A short time ago i’ve set up a BLOG and Gallery site for my sister, Soledad. Now that it’s a bit more ready i’m proud to announce it here in myt own BLOG :

http://yosi-pcl.eng.tau.ac.il/soledad/blog/

This is her address until she registers her own domain name.
If you know her, you might want to read her blog, even though i sometimes find some of her stories confusing to understand because she uses a lot of german words which i don’t, and reffers to alot of people i don’t know, and don’t know her relation to.

Good Luck with your BLOG, Soledad !!

P.S. I think i need more topics. like “Other subjects” or “Web sites” or something…

How I learned to know Ori Berger very good, Or: Embarresing story from my birthday

Two years and a few months ago, I started working in Majorem where i’ve met Ramon and Gidi (pronounced: Gideeeeeeee, and must always be said with a smile) who in time, invited me to join them on what i’ve been known to call as the thursday evening dinner club. At the 2nd or third of these dinners, since i’ve invited some of my co-workers, amongst Ramon and Gidi, i decided to invite the new friend from the thursday dinner.

Nearing the later part of the party, Ori Berger arrived, having only met him for 2 dinners, and being partly swamped with all rush that is orginizing a party and trying to notice every bit of what’s going on in the party, I didn’t recognize Ori when he arrived. There was a few moments of embarresing looks by me, which were in the lines of: aaahhhm… Who’s this guy ? Any body knows him ? probably a friend of a friend ?
I think i didn’t actually said any of them, but i’m not sure, in any case it was a very aqward moment for both of us. I am very shamed to having invited someone, and later not recognizing him.
One thing is for sure, I’m never forgetting who Ori Berger is. Furthermore, i’m going to try to recognize everyone who comes to this birthday party tommorow. I’ve invited Astrid, a friend of mine, which i’ve met and talk to on the net, (and is one of those that triggered the making of this very BLOG). I only met her but once, but both me and Lee wanted to invite her. I’m hoping there won’t be any embarresing “who are you?” moments this year, but then again, since there’s only one swedish guest who speaks english on the guess list, it’s going to be hard to confuse her with other people who i genuinly don’t know, who are invited to the party. (mostly friends of friends).

I don’t understand how come only 8 people confirmed their arrival on the party site.
I’ve invited over 30, and emailed each and every one of them this link :

Am i suppose to prepare food and drinks for 30 people or 8 ?

White Lies.

I don’t lie. I’m a Vulcan. Vulcans don’t lie.
We also repress our emotions, but i’m gonna stick to the lies story now, and stop with other interrupting stories.

I hate lying, and being lied to, including little white lies that are ment to make you “feel better”. I hate those especially, because then you can never get any objectivity regarding what you do. If my site is boring, i want to know about it. If i write too short or to long, i want to know about it. If i offended you, i want to know about it, and if i have something in my teeth, i want to know about it.

I also don’t understand who bothers reading my BLOG, and then voting for the “i’m not reading your blog”. It’s so paradoxal, and it’s bothering me. There’s ALWAYS some wisecracker who think he’s funny, and don’t understand he’s being laughed at in the very next row of the poll. Whoever it is, I don’t get it.

Ok back to the point.

A conversation i had with a friend goes like this:

“Oh, And me and Lee saw a car accident”
“Accident ? what ? where”
“You don’t read my BLOG, or otherwise you’d have known”
“I do read you BLOG. just not too often. once a week ? but when i don’t read it too often, I read back.”
“well. you didn’t. if you’ve would have been you’d known i’ve seen one when i was in taiwan, which was weeks ago”

I have no problem quoting this conversation with that person, just because i know he won’t read it. He doesn’t read my blog often enough to see all the posts i make.
By the time he gets to read it, (IF he’ll even read it) this post will probably be so in the bottom of the page, or already gone, that he will have to stumble on it in the history archives, and come on, if you don’t even bother reading my blog, well, you won’t bother looking in archives.
Since i’m guessing none of you (other then my two most frequant readers) know who i’ve talked to, there’s no one to tell him. So there.
If you indeed read my blog like you say you do, you’ll read this, and you’ll know, and i’m guessing you’ll then call or tell me you read it, thus proving you don’t.
my guess is, i don’t hear from you about this at all. So there.

Q.E.D.

Big Brother

I’ve just installed a few counter (you can see thier icons in the bottom of the page) that are going to give me more info on the number of hits i have on the page.

This made me realize i didn’t need to worry about the last post about the birthday present.

the reason for this, is, that other then Lee, nobody read this page in the time since i’ve posted it.

What a relief, on one hand, and on the other hand, it’s also discouraging almost nobody reads it…

Mazal Tov To Me.

Hey. Mazal tov to me.

I can’t help thinking what i’m going to get. I rarly get stuff i anticipate i want. Even stuff i want without anticipating. Even more, I don’t like most of the stuff i’m getting as presents, and I resent the fact that people don’t get my gifts. I’m a horrible person. I don’t know if it a good time to write about this, no, i DO know it’s a very bad time to write this post.
Ok. I want to think about this rationally. I did like a lot of the meaningless “cheap” stuff I got over the years rather then the “expensive” stuff. Anyone (ANYONE) who knows me, should know never to buy me books for instance, even though i did get a few books over the past years which i didn’t replace, and even read and cherish. I can’t forget a small toy present i got last year (was it last year ?) which was this blue jelly yoyo like ball. I used to get CD’s i replaces, DVD’s i’ve didn’t want and forgot to replace on time, or clothes (very expensive by the way) who were so far diffrent from my clothing style that i replaced them for a few items which i actually did like. I got those clothes from a friend who wanted me to dress more “nice”. No offense (if you know who you are) but they were SO OFF, and i actually told you that i’ve had to replace them. Come on, have any of you have ever see me in buttoned beige shirt ?

I preffer personalized stuff. Stuff that indicate how much you know me, and know what i might like and what i’d enjoy having, or use.
but yes. i preffer not to get anything if you dont’ know what to get me.

As long as i know you’d get me something if you see it and know i’d want it.
Just like i do with my friend Idan. His birthday is in May, and i once bought him something half a year after it, and told him Mazal tov, this is your birthday present.
I know exactly what to get to Idan this year.

It’s a very bad time to write this.

I hope you already got me what you wanted to get me and don’t get in any dilema’s this year.

I don’t know how the fact that i’ve bothered making a wish list is going to effect anything. I hope it’s going to be for the better. I consider it as a “default purchase” when you’ve done some hard thinking and decided i’m a tough nut to crack, and you can’t figure out which knick-knack i don’t have. I like Knick-knacks. My house is so full with knick-knacks. mostly brand name knick-knicknacks with some sentimental value over this TV show, movie or another…Star trek and star wars is an easy choice…

Ohhh… Isn’t it going to be embrresing if two people would get me the same thing, huh ?

DISCLAIMER: If you think you’re effected in any way by the content of this post, please erase it from your memory and i’ll post it or email you personally next week after the party.

Don’t mind me getting all phylosophical, i do that sometimes.

Everyone and his Mazza’s

The week before I left Taiwan, i met this jewish fella, Ron Telet, at Bob’s bagel shop, we chatted some more about israeli and taiwaneese politics, which, again, is something i tend not to talk about.
when the conversation was over and we both left, i told him “Pesach Sameach”, which he almost forgot about, and asked me to bring him some Mazza’s back with me from Israel. He said he havn’t had them for years, and he misses Mazzabroi.

Last year, we had a conversation about this with Adi, (who sees enterprise with us each friday, when it airs). We discusses the fact, that there’s this passover food, which you make by crushing Mazzah into eggs and frying it. Every jew has a diffrent way of making it, and there’s the Yiddish name – Maazabroi- and the jewish name Mazia, which diffrent people use one or the other to desciribe it. The odd thing is that it has so many forms, just like fried eggs have: the omlete-like kind , the scambled eggs like kind , the salty kind, the latxes looking kind, or pancacky-maple-syrupy-sweet kind.
I call the scrabled egg kind “Mazzia’, and don’t like the rest.

so there!
