Unlucky

So my new story idea for a film/sitcom goes like this:
Lets say someone is very unlucky.
Think: Harley in Lost, and i’ve only seen season 1, so no spoilers in comments, (Yes LeChuck2k i mean you)
And after a while he’ll become aware of that he is very unlucky, and that he will lose in everything that involves chance.
Cards, dice, trafic lights, bus arrivals, plane schedules. stocks. women.

Can this guys “cheat” luck ?
Can he become successful if he makes the opposite descision whenever he has to choose ?
Will it work, or will luck just switch along with it and make his choice the wrong choice again ?
If you know whatever choice you make iis the wrong one, and you choose the opopsite of that, does it make it the wrong one or not ?
Fate’s solution for me ?
If you’re very highly unlucky, the only way you’ll make it is if you have someone very lucky with you to balance it.
That’s why i claim i’m with Lee because HER luck overcomes my misfortune.

Wonder why I write this long phylosophical post ?
I got a blue screen of death, because of the display drivers, followed by a 3 hour long checkdisk that found bad sectors on the hard drive that warcraft is on, and on hte sectors warcraft is on.
So i’m using my secondary computer while it runs.
Too long..

I really need a new computer.
I really need money for a new computer.

It’s that old paaradox again, you sell out your time and your soul for money and you can’t use it because you’ve sold out your time to work.
I’d rather be a free poor then a wealthy slave.
Free, poor, with a 1,7 old computer pentium 3 with only 1/5gb ram and a GeForce 5200 that can’t run none of the games that are out today.

Damn it !

Is No news good news ?

Yes, you’ve guessed it right.
Again, i promise you i’ll write tommorow but you get nothing the next day.
It’s a bit of work to take the picture, rotate, upload, write my story as htm, insert the images, write the html tags, post in the blog, preview, see that i have broken links, typos in image names, fix, preview, fix, preview, post.

Too much work.
If you want to hear it, call me, or email me, or MSN me, or ICQ me.

To summerize though, it was well worth it to get up at 6am. I have some nice memories in my RAM. or hard drive.
William Shatner doesn’t seem like the snob bastard everyone keep saying he is.
He looks like a nice private person, which is gonig to go through a lot in this short visit of his to Israel.
part for interviews, press conferance, meetings all over with dignitaries like Shimon Peres, and some ministeres, meeting with business men and going to several horse farms all over, in the north in the south, they have him wake up early for dawn and sleep late.
So being busy and everything, that’s why he couldn’t spare time to meet Trekkies, or that’s why his agents here couldn’t find time for him to meet fans.

So, how did we met him ?
My famous diplomatic Hutzpa that can virtually get me anywhere.

So i managed to sneak in, with permission of course, which i sneakily got.
And I sneaked in Lee as well, couldn’t have it any other way..

so we went there to the press conferance and to get there at 8 we had to wake up at 6.
It’s when i usually go to sleep, you know.

I feel some guilt and dissapointment.

I’d rather meet the stars i’m fan of at a convention with the right context and atmosphere, and the right time of day, and to have a chance to meet them in person in a one on one chat, would be better.
So seeing William Shatner in a boring press conferance, about donations for horse back riding treatment, where he bearly talked, was not ideal.
When he did talk it was nice.
He has that sense of humor in real life as well, and he seemed very natural, but very very tired.

I feel some guilt being one of the only Israeli fans who got to see him in person in Israel, excluding Lee, a guy called Erez ben-ari, and some press and dignitaries who aren’s star trek fans.

I did fullfill my obligatory duties as an Israeli trekkie and formal representative of starbase972 in that event, and handed him with a copy of our magazine while introducing the fan club, mentioning we’re a non profit organization, and we want to help out with charities.
His response: Good ! Lets get some money out of the Trekkies !

Which means one thing: There’s hope.
Now that he’s personally aware of us (and not his agents) and he knows we’re non-profit, we can make another step towards getting him to appear in a convention or a fan meeting..

And i feel proud that I’m part of those paving the way for it.

Taam Hair

For the first time i can admist that this year, Taam Hair (no. 11), was less good the it was ever before.
The main reason for that is the lack of Kimel’s lamb kebob in honey and ginger, which i traditionally have ot eat every year.
A shame.
I was freaked out however to hear Philharmonic Club, a live/electronics orchestra.
It’s so weird together, that it just blows your mind away ! War of the worlds sounds awesome with live violins.
And we got to eat free Milky while hearing their two song concert.
AWESOME !

I’m going to be there today and tommorow as well, eat my dinner there instead of some instant noodles at home.
SMS me when you arrive.

Personal assistant

Say you were a famous person, and and internet persona. Like Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert who writes a lot about Israel in his blog.

Now, lets say you get few hundreds or thousands of email and blog comments, and you still want to read the more interesting and relevant ones yourself, but you can’t handle the work load of reading thousands of posts and emails every day.
You’d need a personal assistant who’s job is to read those emails and posts, aggregate the data, and give you an executive summery of the more interesting ones, and also shortly reply on your behalf, like replying a one line email saying “thank you” for a 3 pages long email from a fan.

When i’m rich and famous i’d definetly hire someone to read all the fan and hate e-mail I get and filter them before I read them myself.
Now, my question is, how do you pay and train this person to properly filter the relevant emails from the junk emails ?
For instance, how do you train your assistant minize filtering errors, so that you won’t miss any imprtant invitatoins to visit distant counrties like Israel, but don’t have to read 100 emails saying :
Hey ! Dilber is great ! I love it ! come have my kids ! XOXO fangirl

I raise the question to my readers audience like Scott adams does.
But unlike me, when he gets a question up into the air, he gets about 400-500 answers a day.
I get 0.013 comments on avarage, with a starndart deviation of 1. Don’t ask me about those negative comments. I hate those.

Why World of Warcraft Is addictive.

Ok, this essay is my view on why World of Warcraft (WoW) is addictive.

First, lets split the case to pre level 60 and post level 60.

These are almost two different games, and I didn’t believe it before I turned 60. I thought I’d play to lvl 60 and quit.
I’ve been level 60 for a few months and am still playing, although I
have been considered quitting on several occasions, so my original
plans of play till 60 and quit didn’t work.

So there are two questions:

1. Why play till lvl 60 ?

The answer is the same as why climb mount everest ? Because it’s there.
Warcraft is a game that many people play, it’s a fun game, online game
where you interact with other players, and I’ve had to play it and do
all the quests like i do in all other RPG’s i play.

So there’s no big discussion about the first question.

BUT:

2. Why play post lvl 60?
The casino effect.
Yes, World of Warcraft post 60, is like a damn huge casino where you go
in the main floor and from all over you here slot machines dispense
money. In any given moment one person in the casino wins something, and
the casino is built in such a way that you can hear it and think, hey,
if they win, so can I !
Now, it works in casinos, and it works in Warcraft, why ? because there
are MANY people in it, but only ONE person wins at a time while the
rest don’t.
You are lead to think that the rewards for winning in warcraft are
awesome, and very rare. And they are, that’s what I’ve been slowly
brainwashed while playing the pre-60 game. By the time you get to
60, you see all those 60 people with epics (very rare items) and
having got one yourself, you think: Hey ! I can get more, and be
awesome !
But that’s the point. They are VERY rare, but you constantly see people
winning them so you don’t lose hope and you just keep trying more and
more and more to gain these items.
But they are SO rare, that you can’t get them yourself. You have to
keep playing more and more and more, and every time you play you see
other people getting items (which you can’t use, but are still very
rare). There are your guild friends who keep getting epics, and people
in the city bragging about their epics, and you think again : Hey ! I
want this for myself !
And then when you realize you won’t be able to achieve it anyway, you
meet with a player that has an ALL EPIC item set ! like 20 epic items
while you have 1, and you get to think that it’s attainable. It’s not.
So you keep playing your addiction thinking you’ll get something on your next trip. You don’t.
That’s why it’s an addiction.

To conclude :
The house always wins. Blizzard keeps winning 12 euros out of my pocket every month.

Edit: Welcome all Carnival of gamers readers. You can check the rest of my blog here.

Trailer vs. game

I don’t know if this is another case of game trailer that doesn’t depict the game.

but the trailer for Heavy Rain Is something very awesome as by itself.
Watch it and then keep reading (spoilers).
Althogh there’s something mechanical about the way the girl’s talking, and something about not moving her upper lip, and an odd lisp, you get used it quickly, and then you are swarmed by a range of emotional neuances, which is something you don’t see too often in virtual actors.
I wonder if the game itself will be focused on such things, ususally you get an awesome trailer and later to see a low polygonal with characters looking like shit, and no emotion at all.
Now, the next interesting thing is that the trailer is for AN ADVENTURE GAME for ps3.
Not only the adventure game genre isn’t dead, this new title comes for PS3, which isn’t a market for adventrure games at all !
Odd.
I’d like to see it myself, but I wouldn’t buy a PS3 .
Hope they’ll later release it for PC…
