Meeting with the US Ambassador to Israel

By popular demans (Ori B.’s request) I’ll tell the tale of my meeting with the U.S. Embassador to Israel, Richard H. Jones..
As an MBA student i’m invited to all sort of events and cocktail parties.
This was one of them, the Wharton-Harvard-Tel-aviv MBA alumni association are having regular networking events which I had the pleasure of attending.
There was a small gathering followed by a lecture by ambassador about Intelectual properties, and copyrights.
He didn’t speak of anything too facinating in his speach, and following his speach the audience only asked him VERY boring political questions about Israeli and arabs.
There was only one thing exciting about his lecture.
He’s an inventor, and have a patent on a no tool lattice construction device, that he want to develop into a game that will teach kids geometry and maybe have some space applications.
That was very exciting to hear about. At the end of the talk, I approached him and gave him my business card, and the next awesome thing was that he recognized the name “Corbomite” !
Yes, The US Embassador to Israel is a Star Trek fan ! He even watched the original airing of “The Corbomite maneuver” !
I told him about Shatner’s arrival to Israel, which he was unaware of, I asked him if the embassy would like to help Starbase972 to bring over some more actors, and he said they might help us do that.
That’s all Ori !
You didn’t miss to much at the lecture itself, but the event was worth it for me
Hope you’re enjoying Diving in Eilat, Too bad you don’t keep a blog, because i’d love you hear your trip’s story.

Bad luck or Good luck ?

A few months ago I was interviewed by Rockstar Vienna about a possible position in their company in Austria.

I’m not sure if it was good luck, or bad luck that I wasn’t employed by Rockstar Vienna.

Today, The game news say that Rockstar Vienna got shut down. So it’s a good thing I didn’t reallocate for that.

And, I ended up staying here studying for an MBA, and foudning Corbomite Games, which is far better then working on a project getting cancled half way through. I did that with Ballreium already.

Games and Comics

Dork tower has a series of strips about sex in cartoons. It starts with this one:

http://archive.gamespy.com/comics/dorktower/archive.asp?nextform=viewcomic&id=1122

This made me think.
Comic books and computer games have a lot in common and in particular the sex issue. They are both treated as “things for kids” by those who don’t play games, or read comics. We know that it is entirely false. The average gamer is about 30 now, and by judging from all the stereotypes in sitcoms, the average comics book reader is also 30 or more (and lives in his mother’s garage, and is a virgin).
And hence when comes an adult comic, it is sometimes treated as porn, just as games with adult content are.

What other analogies are there between comics and computer games ?

Barnabas, help me out here.

Ohh, another funny thing I noticed while writing this post, is that Dork Tower is acsually hosted by “Gamespy”, which is a website for computer games.
Huh !

Mac and PC’s Continued.

Hey.
I know that only about 0-1 of you clicked the Mac and PC ads i linked to last week.
Too bad.

Why ? Becuase today’s Ctrl Alt Del really made me laugh, becuase it was :
A. a good parody of those ads.
B. True

And you know what they say:
“It’s funny because it’s true.”

But it’s not funny if you don’t read it.
So i’ll spare you the hassle of clicking and tell you the punchline now :
She found the horse IN THE BATH TUB !
Ha ha… such a good one..

AL Lowe’s New Game

A few months ago, I though to myself: What is Al Lowe (Creator or the Larry series) up to.
Today, i got an announcement about his new game:

It’s Al Lowe’s CyberJoke 3000

It’s late Tuesday night at E3 and my secret is secret no more! I just returned from iBase Entertainment’s very first press conference where we announced to the media what is by now obvious to you: I am doing a new game! Sam Suede: Undercover Exposure will be out in 2007 for PCs and next- and current-gen consoles.

The press conference was a blast. We had a big crowd; I’m sure you’ll start seeing talk about Sam Suede soon, first online and then later in print. But, more importantly, it’s just such a relief to finally be able to talk about this game! I’ve been working on it for over a year now, while still trying to maintain my “cover” as a retired guy playing golf and saxophone. Meanwhile, I’ve been working every day, all day, creating not only a fun game design, but a game development studio and a publishing company, too! I feel like Sam Suede: I’ve been Undercover and now it’s time to get a some Exposure! *grin*

So what is iBase Entertainment? Who is Sam Suede? What is Undercover Exposure? More on all that tomorrow. As they say, “stay tuned!”

Other then this email, and speculations from last there’s no mention about it on the web yet, and i’d wish i’ve been to E3 and heard about it in the press conference myself.
I’m just waiting for more news to pour in.. and of course, i’m waiting to play it !
Hey ! It’s an Al Lowe game !

Oh, Dana… you can also skip this one.
Yeah, I forgot to tell you that at the beginning of the post, but now i’m at the end of it and I just thought about telling you that too late.
Can’t go back now..

Addiction

Today’s post is brought to you with the help of today’s Penny Arcade Comic

I thought I had it under control. I thought I was over it. I thought I wasn’t addicted anymore.
I thought i got it down to 3-4 hours a week, with all the Passover/Independance day/ work / and other games going on.
That everyone in my guild who i liked left, and that there weren’t any solo quests I can do, and that there’s no chance i’ll get any elite quests done, and that no chance i’ll get to see any big bosses in the high end instances down.
Apprantly, I was wrong.
And I only say it because yesterday, i was onlince for about 6 hours straight without moving form my sit in front of Zul`Gurub.
And that’s after about a month of logging into World of Warcraft for no more then once a week for 20 minutes, and giving up.

Somehow, something changed. I don’t know what it is, and i don’t know if it’s good or bad. But i’m relapsing.

Anyways real life always come first, even when i’m addicted.

Oh, BTW Dana, you can skip reading this post becuase it’s about computer games…

Macs and PC’s

There was a post on Kim’s blog about the Mac Ads.

I have a very low opinion on macs, as i’ve had a very doubtful “pleasure” on working on them.
They stuck as much as a PC, the are very uneasy to get used to if you’re used to something else, and you’re so limited in the system, that you can’t configure ANYTHING, unlike windows, or better yet, open source OS’es like Linux, where you can configure ANYTHING you want the way YOU like it, and not some art majors at apple.
On top of it, most of what’s been said in those commercials simply isn’t true. I couldn’t connect my digital camera to the Mac when I worked in Waves, and i’ve always prefered using the PC.

But still, those commercials are very funny, and for the avarage DUMB user, a mac might be a good choice.
For us smarties, i’d stay away from Macs.

Richard Stallman’s autograph

According to Slashdot, Richard Stallman, The man behind the free software foundation and GNU (Gnu is NOT unix) started selling his autographs.

This raises an interesting phylosophical question:

Will Stallman’s autograph be Open Sourced ?
I.E, If I get his autograph, can I copy it and give copies to share with my friends ?

I’ve had the pleasure to hear Stallman speak here in Israel a while ago along with Ori Berger.
Too bad I didn’t get an autograph then.
